Terrace design

Furnishing and designing the terrace: a secret garden in the sky.

Furnishing the terrace and making it a livable and design space is a dream for many people. Precisely for this reason in Rome and the world, there are studies like ours specialized in the design of terraces.

However, not even major cities like New York, Dubai, Paris, or Tokyo can boast our number of roof gardens full of plants, pergolas, and verandas. The very shape of Rome is in this continuous ups and downs of roofs. The most beautiful roof gardens and penthouses in the city have always been alive, set up for dinners, meetings or parties. And every inhabitant who decides to renovate and furnish the terrace contributes to making unique a city panorama already dotted with monuments.

Designing the terrace, functionalizing the spaces

When organizing spaces and their functionality, it is also good to be careful in respecting the proportions of the elements that make up space, without ever interrupting the dialogue with the landscape. In panoramic terraces it is sometimes advisable, for example, to use transparent glass railings instead of a wall to maintain the view.

The most important elements in any terrace furnishing project are outdoor floors, plants, pots, and irrigation systems. Then there are the scenic and functional lighting systems, the seating areas, the privacy barriers, and the wooden floors.

Often ad hoc solutions must be devised to shade some parts of the terrace. Parasols can be used, but they must be heavy for them to be sufficiently wind resistant. Other options are retractable awnings, gazebos, or pergolas.

If the space is limited, it is better to limit yourself to a pergola, perhaps on which a plant such as a vine or a passionflower climbs, combining a bistro table for dinner or aperitifs with friends. Depending on the available space, planters, barbecues and outdoor heating stoves can be added.

A ready-made project cannot exist, and in any case, the terrace is to be considered an extension of the house. It is important to be able to interact with the style that the customer has chosen for the interiors.

Plants for the terrace

The success of a good terrace is a difficult planning commitment because the plants suitable to thrive in pots, in the summer heat and the wind are generally few, or little present in the large commercial distribution. This limit is for us an invitation to a way of conscious gardening, which involves the search and use of resistant plants, and eager for little water.
