The set of all living organisms in a given area, which interact with the physical environment, so that an energy flow leads to a well-defined structure trophic, to a biotic diversity and to cycles of matter within the system
The garden is the connection between the natural, spontaneous aspect of the nature and human creation. Referring to the garden, we speak, therefore, of a nature shaped by man, made more suited to one's needs.
We can say that the garden, public or private, is the link between the man and nature an “intermediate state”.
Regardless of the style adopted, one must think of a garden as a space designed and created by the human mind, which has replaced nature. In the garden design phases, man can dispose of some of the natural components to his liking, making a series of choices regarding:
- change the shape of the ground,;
- the plant species to be used;
- planting densities;
- the position of the plants on the site;
- introduction of artificial components
The definition of garden as "domesticated nature" appears even more appropriate when one thinks of the introduction of artificial components into the garden.
Artificial components are to be considered: - architectural elements; - flooring; - the furnishings; - earth movements; the plants. Their introduction is necessary, as it is not always possible to make up for it exclusively with the use of plant material to the functional, technical and aesthetic needs that may arise. Therefore the garden can be considered, in all respects, a place of synthesis between natural elements and artificial elements.
